first_imgYou’ll be seeing more of this little guy in the future, following his recent crowning, by Macao Tourism, as its new official mascot, charged with the responsibility of promoting Macao worldwide. The competition to create the new mascot, organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office in conjunction with the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Cultural Industry Fund, attracted over 110 entries.Designed by Tou Chon Wai, the black-faced spoonbill with hues of red, yellow and blue, is called Mak Mak. The contest was seeking a design that was uniquely Macao, and the winning entry was inspired by the city’s historic whitewashed Guia Lighthouse, the variety of colours suggestive of a European feel.Mak Mak will be used for destination promotions, including on various promotional material, and will make special appearances at different tourism-related events and overseas tourism promotions, including events held in both the Australian and New Zealand markets.
