Western Sahara Egypt Reaffirms Attachment to Moroccos Territorial Integrity

Rabat  – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Choukri reaffirmed Egypt’s attachment to Morocco’s territorial integrity and its support for the autonomy initiative submitted by the Kingdom to put an end to the Western Sahara conflict.Concerning the Western Sahara issue, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s attachment to Morocco’s territorial unity and to a UN-brokered solution for this issue, as well as its support for UNSC resolutions on the Moroccan autonomy project and the serious and credible effort by Morocco to move ahead towards the settlement of this conflict, wrote a joint statement on Friday on the occasion of the visit to Morocco by the Egyptian Foreign Minister.Foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar reaffirmed Morocco’s position in support of “the process of democratic change in Egypt and of the road map adopted by the Egyptian people, after the revolution of June 30, to elect democratic institutions starting with a referendum on a new constitution which was approved early 2014, following the election of his excellency president Abdelfettah Al Sissi last June during free and fair elections, mirroring the will of the sweeping majority of the Egyptian people to hold the legislative elections scheduled March 2015,” the statement added. read more

Annan congratulates former EU official on selection as head of World Trade

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today warmly congratulated former European Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy, a French national, on his formal selection as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).In a statement issued in New York by a UN spokesman, the Secretary-General noted that “Mr. Lamy’s proven track record as Trade Commissioner of the European Union, and his understanding that progress on trade is vital to our work to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), makes him an excellent leader of the WTO at this defining time.”According to the statement, the Secretary-General welcomed Mr. Lamy’s express commitment to completing the Doha trade negotiations, and to ensuring that trade contributes to the development of those countries that need it most.”He wishes Mr. Lamy all the best as he prepares to take up his duties on 1 September, and looks forward to an ever closer partnership between their two Organizations in the years ahead,” the statement said. read more

Opening of Term Celebration fills Market Hall

It was a sold out crowd in Market Hall Thursday for the annual Opening of Term Celebration.Brock University Acting President Brian Hutchings thanked staff and faculty in attendance and looked forward to an exciting 2016/17 school year.He said there are some amazing bricks and mortar projects starting, including the Goodman School of Business expansion, as well as two new master’s programs beginning next month.Hutchings also highlighted three new academic leaders at Brock including incoming President Wendy Cukier, newly appointed Dean of Graduate Studies Jens Coorssen and new University Librarian Mark Robertson.“We look forward to the term and making the students very successful,” he said.Senate chair Scott Henderson, associate professor in the Department of Communication, Pop Culture and Film, helped usher in the new term and pointed out that Brock never really slows down, even during the summer.“There’s no true end or beginning of the academic cycle,” he said, pointing to summer programming and the continued research that happens year round.“We welcome the new term as one where Brock will continue to grow, prosper and embed itself in the heart of the community,” he said. read more
