Jay Rodriguez may need further surgery as he deals with a foot problem

first_img Press Association The England international only returned to action this season after 16 months out with cruciate damage but has now been sidelined since mid-October. Manager Ronald Koeman is baffled by the latest injury but Rodriguez could be facing another long spell out. Injury-hit Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez may need an operation to cure a mystery foot problem.center_img “Jay is not good, we are disappointed,” Koeman said. “We did everything about his feet but looks like it could be surgery next week. “I don’t know what it is, you have to ask the doctor. The medical staff will make the final call about surgery, and if it’s yes I can tell something more about how long (he will be out). “It’s difficult for the player and for everybody, he has no problems about his knee and it’s a different injury. That takes him down mentally, but we will give total support to the player.” Another injury-hit Saints striker made his comeback this week, but Koeman was not entirely impressed with Shane Long’s appearance for Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2016 qualifying win over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Long played most of the second half having trained just once following a five-week lay-off with an ankle problem. “I was surprised,” added the Dutchman. “Of course our doctor had contact with the medical staff of the Irish national team and my information was he still was not 100 per cent fit. “I don’t like to say more because that’s not the way; the way is to contact them and if we are not happy we have to tell them. That’s the first step. “He is now fit- because he played 40 minutes! But in my opinion a player needs more training before playing 40 minutes. “I understand it was a very important game, about qualification, but if I’m national coach I don’t put a player in after five or six weeks with only one training session. But that’s my personal opinion.” last_img read more

Cricket News Ramiz Raja Commits Big Blunder In Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka T20I, R Ashwin Has A Big Laugh

first_imgNew Delhi: Oshada Fernando was the star performer in the third Twenty20 International between Pakistan and Sri Lanka from the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. His 78 off 48 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes helped Sri Lanka reach 147/7 and Wanindu Hasaranga’s three wickets helped Sri Lanka, without their key stars, win the match by 13 runs and sweep the series 3-0. It was a fantastic effort by Sri Lanka but Pakistan’s embarrasment continued not just on the field but off it. During the post-match presentation ceremony, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja was interviewing Fernando after he received an effort. Since Fernando’s English is very weak, he requested a translator. When he asked the first question, “Whether this is your best knock ever?”. Fernando replied, “Yes.” Ramiz mistakingly pointed the mick at the translator who replied, “He did say yes.” Ramiz realised the mistake and embarrasingly took the mick back. Twitter had a field day with Ramiz’s faux pas, with Ravichandran Ashwin, the India offspinner tweeting “Good morning.”  For all the Latest Sports News News, Cricket News News, Download News Nation Android and iOS Mobile Apps. These same players have been around for a while now. More or less the same team which made us number one and has been playing together for around three to four years now,” Misbah said. Also Read | Imam ul Haq ton, Shaheen Afridi 6/35 give Pakistan bittersweet win vs Bangladesh in World Cup 2019The pressure of the loss told on Misbah, who veered from sarcasm to anger in the entire press conference. The 46-year-old, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2017, took the blame of the entire series loss on himself. Also Read | Shakib Al Hasan continues to smash records in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019″Yes, I take responsibility for the series defeat. It is very disappointing and we played poorly. But this is same team which made us number one. Same players who have been playing for around three years. If you want to blame me, fine. I have been just 10 days on the job and yes about changes, I asked a right hand batsman to start batting left-handed and told a left-hand bowler to start bowling right-hand, right. Only the wicketkeeper is not playing well, the rest of the 10 players are doing so well,” Misbah said, also stating that the media needed to think and write.last_img read more
